Our History
BESIDE was born out of historical involvement with Tamar Westminster, an established outreach charity to women involved in the sex industry in central London.
Through this work, we were able to see the need, complexities and effectiveness of proactively reaching out to women who can often find themselves isolated or at risk of exploitation within the sex industry.
We also met women who had been trafficked or coerced into the sex industry and due to a variety of complex reasons, often including language barriers, found themselves unable to reach out and ask for help or support.
We have seen through the years how effective consistent outreach can be in providing hope, by connecting and journeying alongside women, establishing trusted relationships and offering help to access local support services.
At BESIDE we seek to replicate a similar model of outreach to women at risk of exploitation in Kingston.
Our Team
We are a team of women who choose to give our time to reach out and care for women involved in sex work.
Each member of our voluntary team is inspired by their Christian faith to serve and love others, and we reach out to women of all faiths, or no faith, without judgement. We see every woman as a precious individual.
We are pooled from local churches which are part of the Co-Mission network and primarily supported by Cornerstone Church Kingston.
